Triathlon Training With Element

Bike Training

Winter training:

During the winter months, bike workouts are held weekly in the store.    In store workoutsare run on Tuesday nights and Saturday mornings.   As well, we run longer rides one or two weekends a month during the winter.  These rides will be 1.5 to 3 hours and they work on building your aerobic base.    We offer Tuesday night workouts which run from October 1 through to the end of March as well as longer, Sunday "Matinee" rides of 2 to 3 hours which start October 16, 2011.

Spring/Summer Training:  Tuesday Night Rides

When spring finally breaks and the roads are clean enough to ride, we continue riding but we take it outdoors.  We are currently running a Tuesday night ride which is open to anyone.  The Tuesday night ride will be 60 to 120 minutes and will feature hills, sprints or some combination thereof to give you a nice workout in safe and fun environment.  Tuesday night rides start from the store at or around 6PM.  In order to ride, all you need to do is show up with your bike and helmet and join the Element Tri Club. Club membership is just $10/month during the summer and provides insurance coverage for the training rides.  This might be the most fun you'll have on 2 wheels this summer.
The Tuesday Night Ride Outside program has wrapped up for 2011 and the Winter Training sessions above have started.  Please join us!

"Girls Night Out" Triathlon Training Program

Sorry, guys but this one is seriously for women only.  This program starts up again in February of 2012 and will be a 12 week program with the goal race being the Iron-Girl Women's Triathlon at Loews Lake Las Vegas Resort.  The Iron-Girl Las Vegas race is set for May 6 and that is just one race option.  The Alberta race schedule starts up around the same time so, whether you decide to have a fun-filled weekend in Las Vegas or not, you will be ready to tackle the Alberta race scene this week.  So, whether your goal race is the Coronation Triathlon, the Summerside Triathlon or even an early season 70.3 race, this training program will help get you to the start line pretty much ready to go.  And you'll get to train with and get to know some other like-minded local women and athletes.  We really hope we can get a nice group heading down to Vegas so we can all race and celebrate our training success together.  And, if we end up having to do some club-hopping or shopping while we're in Vegas, that is just a bonus.

Swim Training

If you are interested in swimming, we have training and technique clinic options and there are some exciting changes coming to Element in 2012 that will involve some swim training, opportunities, we aren't offering any of our own training programs right now.  However, we do think we have something better for you.  Element has partnered with the Edmonton Koalas Swim team as our official swim training partner and we are recommending and participating in their group ourselves.  The Edmonton Koalas Swim Club is  a masters swim club based out of Peter Hemingway and coached by local triathlete, swimmer and coach, Jason Britton.  Jason brings a wealth of experience and technical swim expertise to the table.  If you want to swim further and faster than you've swam before, this is group is for you.  There are 7 swim workouts open to you as a member of the swim team and drop in attendance at $10 per session is available as well.

Spring/Summer Training:  Women's Ride on Wednesday Night

The Wednesday ride is for women only.  The Wednesday ride will be 60 to 90 minutes and will give you an workout as well as help you get comfortable riding and handling your bike.  Like the Tuesday ride, the Women's ride leaves from the store at or around 6PM.  Come ready to ride.  All participants in the Wednesday ride also need to be members of the Element Tri Club.  The Wednesday rides for 2011 have wrapped up.  Look for them to return in the spring/summer of 2012.

Race Registration

Element Women's Triathlon 2011 was held on September 4.  The date for the 2012 race has not yet been set.

Element Clinic Registration

The next of our Bikeology 101 bike maintenance clinics will be held in the new year.  When the date is posted and the clinic is open for registration, that info will be included in a newsletter so all you need to do for now is make sure you are on the newsletter list and you'll get the most up to date information.  Space in each clinic is limited to 10 so sign up early to secure your spot.  This is your chance to get the goods from Cam himself. This will be a great information session for anyone with a new bike or anyone who has been riding for years but never really knew how to master some basic bike maintenance tasks.  However, even if there is no clinic scheduled, and if you are a member of a group or a club who would like Cam to put on a clinic for your group, please contact Cam directly and we can make it happen for you.
