David Shernofsky

Toronto, Ontario

After years of putting work ahead of physical activity, David decided to challenge himself when together with an old friend, they decided to register for a race in March of last year.  At the time, David had never been a runner, and was fifty-five pounds overweight.  The commitment to run a 15km distance within six months started a rejuvenation of mind and spirit.  After losing the majority of that weight four months in, and using a running "app" to begin understanding how to train for a race, the feeling of accomplishment kept adding more fuel to the fire.  Hitting that first fitness goal sparked a competitive spirit that had not been a live within him since his teenage years.  Six months after completing the 15km race, David finished his first half-marathon race with an eye on completing his first 50km ultra marathon distance race six months after that.  In October 2015, David decided to accept another challenge -- The Ride to Conquer Cancer.  Through his participation, he realized he could combine his desire to integrate charitable giving into his fitness goals.  With both long distance running and biking well in hand, he now plans to complete in his first Ironman 70.3 in October 2016.  With all the momentum generated from what seemed like a small commitment to complete a 15km race with a friend, David also has his sights on completing the Canadian Death Race in 2017.
